Title: Head of Communications

Role Overview

Overall responsibility for the story and communications activity for The Ozone Project, to promote and raise awareness of the company’s key messages, values and business growth.

Ozone is a challenger brand, and leading change in how the digital advertising industry operates. The DoC is the driving force behind creating the narrative, and creating and executing on the comms to support this. This includes ensuring Ozone has a single and consistent message and takes advantage of the thought leadership position Ozone has been granted by virtue of representing the leaders in the news industry in the UK.

This new role is expected to change and grow as the organisation continues to reshape its focus and strategic direction. The specific duties may also change and the role holder needs to be flexible and adaptable during this time.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver a clear communication strategy for Ozone, working closely with the CEO, Ozone leadership team and peers within the publisher group, that supports the ambition and leadership role of Ozone in the advertising sector

  • As a member of the Ozone leadership team, take responsibility for all comms activity and channels to support business objectives. These include but are not limited to thought leadership articles, press releases, events, social media activity, website and other marketing collateral

  • Developing and maintaining a clear set of internal and external communications principles and guidelines

  • Ensuring all messaging at all times across the business is consistent and clearly speaks to the needs of all stakeholders

  • Maintain regular engagement with comms teams within publisher businesses to keep regular flow of information about comms activity and to coordinate any joint marketing opportunities

Your Experience

  • Experience of devising, implementing and delivering external and internal communication strategies in complex scenarios and organisations is essential

  • Proven track record of working successfully at a senior level in communications, preferably (but not essentially) in the adtech or media sector

  • Possess a deep understanding of the role of digital and social media

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex and changing work environments and in pursuit of new revenue streams

  • Adept at managing multiple priorities whilst delivering excellent results

  • Frontline communications experience covering proactive, strategic and tactical planning across a range of different digital channels and media, including face to face engagement

  • Well-networked, with a good range of press and PR agency contacts, with an in-depth

    understanding of how the media and news industry specifically operates, and strong current knowledge of media, employee and industry-related trends

  • A compelling track record of dealing with high profile issues and a creative approach to external and internal communications, coupled with excellent judgment

  • Self-starter with the intuition and ability to identify potential opportunities and risks, and

    translate these proactively into initiatives

  • Maintain an understanding of the changing media (including social media), and broadcast landscape, keeping abreast of developments in the market that could add value to the news industry’s offering

  • Excellent abilities in writing, proofing and editing materials of all kinds, and proven experience presenting proposals and plans to senior/board level executives

  • Confident authoritative style and clear articulate communicator
